F.A.Q

It is essential to trust your ears and take the time to listen to the speakers Diptyque with different electronics and different types of music. Listening to music is a personal experience, and the system you install in your home should match your tastes and expectations.

Resellers and distributors Diptyque have been selected for their expertise and passion. They are professionals who know the products perfectly and will be able to advise you personally in your choice of speakers.

The best hi-fi systems have often been improved over time through incremental tweaks that have optimized their performance in a listening room. Curiosity and experimentation allow progress in the quest for a vibrant, natural sound.

Speaker size depends on the size of the room. Here are some guidelines to help you choose the best speaker:

  • DP 85: 10 - 20 m²
  • DP 115: 15 - 30 m²
  • DP 140: 20 - 40 m²
  • DP 160: 25 - 50 m²
  • reference : 30 m² and more

Note that there are exceptions: if you have excellent acoustic treatment in a small room, you can use larger models.

Speaker placement depends on the acoustics of your room. Here are 5 rules to follow when starting the installation:

  1. Place the speakers at least 80 cm away from the rear wall. The larger the speaker, the greater the distance should be (1 m for the Reference model).
  2. Form an equilateral triangle between the speakers and the listening point.
  3. Place the tweeters inside.
  4. Turn the speakers towards the listening point.
  5. Check the verticality of the speakers with a spirit level and adjust if necessary to ensure perfect phase and an accurate soundstage.

After following these rules, take the time to listen and test adjustments to find the optimal position.

  • Move the speakers forward or backward in 10 cm steps.
  • Move the speakers slightly apart; they may be close to the side walls. Check the vocal accuracy in the center.
  • Test the tweeter position outdoors. If your room's acoustics are dampened, this can improve the soundstage's openness. If the acoustics are clear, return to the original position. Then, test the adjustments gradually to understand the impact of each change on the sound.

Acoustics is a complex science, but here are some simple tips to ensure quality listening with your speakers Diptyque :

  • Balancing the room acoustics : Clap your hands and listen. The sound should not be too reverberant (too bright) or too muffled (too dark). Good acoustics translate into sound comfort, just like during a conversation.
  • Do not dampen the rear of the speakers : The speakers Diptyque need the back wall to produce balanced bass, so there is no need to absorb or dampen the sound behind them.
  • Dampen certain areas if the room is too bright : If the acoustics in your room are too bright, you can add elements to dampen them, such as a rug on the floor, curtains on the windows, a bookcase or pictures on the walls, and/or treat the area behind the listening point.
  • Use diffusers on the back of the speakers : To improve the depth and precision of the soundstage, we recommend installing diffusers (reliefs) on the wall behind the speakers. There are many simple and aesthetic solutions for this.

We won't name any specific brands, but there are excellent amplifiers in all categories (tube, solid-state, Class A, D, AB, etc.). However, speakers Diptyque Being isodynamic, they require an amplifier that is suited to them. An amplifier designed for other types of speakers, such as high-efficiency or electrostatic models, might not be optimal for Diptyque. So it is essential to try.

To begin, we recommend listening to the speakers Diptyque (all models) with a 2x150W/8Ohm (or more) Class AB transistor amplifier from a quality brand. This will serve as a reference, and you can then test other technologies and power levels to find the system that gives you the most listening pleasure, depending on your taste and budget.

Cables play an important role in sound reproduction, but they must not degrade the audio signal. As our friend "R" says: "Cables don't improve a HiFi system, they only degrade it." The best cable is the one that degrades the signal the least. We therefore advise you to trust your ears, your dealer, and take the time to test different options.

Speaker Diptyque require a break-in period to achieve optimal performance. This process improves tonal balance and the naturalness of low frequencies. We recommend approximately 200 hours of operation for optimal sound. To help you with the break-in, we suggest listening to a recording of the ocean made by Fernand Deroussen, available here: https://open.qobuz.com/track/29897132

Speaker Diptyque do not require any special maintenance. Unlike electrostatic speakers, they are not affected by humidity or dust. If a stain appears on one side, you can clean it with a sponge and a little soap, without using too much water.
